Porsche have updated their 911 GT3 R customer race car for the worldwide GT3 series to be available for the 2019 season. Based of the new 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, special attention was given to developing efficient aerodynamics, greater safety levels and lower costs for both servicing and parts.
The body it made up from a lightweight aluminium-steel composite construction with the roof, front hood and fairing, wheel arches, doors, side and tail sections and rear lid and interior trim are all made using a particularly light carbon-fibre composite material (CFRP). To top it all off, the windows are made from polycarbonate.
The 4.0L Flat 6 engine remains largely the same as the production version, with direct fuel injection that operates at pressures up to 200 bar, and variable valve timing adjustments of the intake and exhaust camshafts for fuel efficiency. Changes to the engine have delivered significantly better driveability with a broader usable rev range, and thanks to the use of six throttle butterflies engine response is more precise. The transmission is a sequential six-speed constant-mesh unit that uses an electronic shift actuator for fast precise gear changes.
